Like an unseen rock under the water hit it? Not quite following.

Hydrolock? Also is that a connecting rod?

That rod was the one who knocked.

Water doesnt compress.

This is what happens when you suck too much water into the intake. Bummer.

Aww, cute little connecting rod peeking out to say hi, but not all the way, cuz he’s a shy widdle bugger.

Hell, a little JB weld and she’ll be good as new!

Better to drive through standing water than flowing water. But really don’t driver through water in general, your car is not a boat ( unless it is ).

Sucked water in the intake. Water doesn’t compress so the piston stopped moving but the crank didn’t. The rod didn’t know what to do so it peaced the f out.

Maybe a new rod too, since it’s currently upside down...

I don’t believe I specified that JB weld usage should be limited to fixing the hole! Besides, I bet it’ll run a cylinder down. If the Triumph can run down one, surely this can ;)

Good point! This was from our “storm” by the way. Wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few more tying up adjusters.

Rod just needed some fresh air. He was having a bad day.

Is it a super low intake?!?

Or did someone basically drive through hood height standing water?

Kinja'd!!! AMGtech - now with more recalls! > Decay buys too many beaters

Kinja'd!!!1

It’s a hood height intake. He said he drove through a “puddle”. Take that as you will. Intercooler was full and air filter was sopping.

Well, I suppose “puddle” is a fairly generic term that does not specify or imply depth, but good god.

My old Fiat Panda had a common-ish issue with hydrolocking due to the stupid intake design. A few have been known to kill engines die to it. Once after heavy rain mine refused to turn over properly. The starter kicked then the whole thing locked. It eventually started, but fairly sure there was a small amount of water in the cylinders.

[David Attenborough voice]

And here we can see the birth of a German connecting rod, getting its first breath of air as it punches out of its alumineeum shell.

That sucks. This isn’t common on our stuff. Our intakes are pretty much all hood height. It takes some deep water and some throttle to pull water in.
